New Feature Announcement: Enhanced Alert Viewer

New Feature Announcement: Enhanced Alert Viewer
Wilton 2020-12-15 Welcome Public

Hi all,

Some of you might have noticed a new item on the left nav bar of your dashboard. The "Alerts" page is the first phase of a major redesign of our alerts system. We've built an in-browser viewer with real time updates. For people who subscribe to the insider trading firehose (which send an alert for every insider trade), this should help you keep track a lot easier.

Upcoming enhancements:

  • tracking which alerts have been viewed
  • toggle audio signal when alerts
  • browser popups (optional and toggleable)
  • more informative data in the alert body to help with decision making (suggestions welcome)

In Phase II of this redesign, we'll be updating the subscription process. This will include:

  • ability to create fine-grained, custom filters on SEC filings
  • ability to specify the selection universe for an alert (ie, alert for any reporting company, alert for companies in a stock list, alert for specific company)
  • provide a bunch of premade, curated alert definitions to help novices get started with some basic alerts that we think are important

In Phase III, we will look at adding more alert channels besides email. Channels under consideration:

  • text messages
  • stripe integration - we have a prototype of this build already
  • discord (?)

As usual, we would love any feedback on this. Wilton

Hi Wilton, my name is Lui and thank you for adding me here.

Can the alert to able to track the Institutional Value purchase? For example, if Blackrock just purchased a certain % of a company at which value.

Thanks in advance. Cheers, Lui.

Because so far all the email alert are for Insider of the company. I have shortlisted and subscribed some institutional companies but no alert when they made purchase?

Wilton 2020-12-25

Hi Lui,

Currently, we only send alerts for funds that file 13D (activist) filings. We used to send alerts for 13G filings, but we stopped. The reason for this is because on February 15 every year, all institutions that have more than 5% of a company must file a 13G. Since BlackRock and Vanguard are so large and generally hold more than 5% of most companies, anybody who followed those companies would get about 30,000 email alerts in their inbox.

We cut out the 13G filing email alerts and restricted it to 13D filings, which are required for activist investors - people and companies that intend so influence management.

Now, since we're talking about non-email alerts now, I'm willing to explore this area again. The idea behind the alert viewer is to provide an easier way to process a high volume of alerts, so it might make sense to open this back up.

What I will propose is that we fire an alert for any NEW investment from Blackrock/Vanguard/whoever that files a 13G. This should keep the volume down but still provide some interesting opportunities to track large buys by investors.

What do you think?

Hi Wilton, thanks for the explanations. Yes, ideally to track of the large buys with prompt alert by the investors. Also, we could have prompt alert when they increased their current position more than 100% and that would be great too. Thanks again Wilton for your works. Cheers

Hi folks, cross-posting this comment I also put on the thread about the introduction of the alert feature. I see Lui Chuen's suggestion for being able to track changes on Portfolios where a position increases by a certain $ value or %. Thanks Lui Chuen for that suggestion. A few other ideas I've been talking bout with Wilton. Please et us know what you think about the following. 1. Is it helpful to offer filters that you could define such as transaction value above a certain dollar value which could help filter out small value transactions vs. big ones? 2. Distinguishing between positive and negative events? 3. Ability to create batch alerts in addition to the individual ones (one email daily potentially in addition to the individual emails). 4. Ability to deliver alerts via text / sms? Anything else you can think of? Thank you very much for your insights!

Hi Bill, 1. Is it helpful to offer filters that you could define such as transaction value above a certain dollar value which could help filter out small value transactions vs. big ones? YES, that would save us a lot of time. 2. Distinguishing between positive and negative events? NO COMMNETS. 3. Ability to create batch alerts in addition to the individual ones (one email daily potentially in addition to the individual emails) NO COMMENTS. 4. Ability to deliver alerts via text / sms? YES, that would be helpful.
