(Alliance News) - Industrial production in France declined in April, ending a two-month streak of gains, data from the National Institute of Statistics & Economic Studies showed on Friday.

According to Insee, seasonally and calendar-adjusted industrial production dropped by 1.4% from March, following a revised 0.1% rise the previous month. Manufacturing output fell by 0.6% after a 0.5% increase in March.

The downturn was driven by steep declines in several sectors. Energy output plunged 5.0%, reflecting mild weather conditions that cut demand for heating and electricity.

Over the February to April period, manufacturing output was 1.0% lower than a year earlier, while total industrial production fell 0.8% year-on-year.

In contrast, the construction sector showed signs of recovery. Output rose 0.8% month-on-month, with gains across building, civil engineering and specialised activities. However, over the latest three-month period, construction output was still 1.5% lower than the same period in 2024.
